Brackendale General Store: The Heart of the Neighborhood
The store has been a pillar of the community for over a century. The current building was constructed in 1916 by Hughie Mills, replacing an even older shop that had stood on the same ground. For decades, it was the social epicenter of Brackendale, housing the local post office and serving as the primary meeting place for residents. Generations of local families, most notably the Judds and the Bergs, lived and worked within these walls, cementing the store’s legacy as a true community home.
Currently operated by Michael Yim, "The Gen" is a living landmark that remains just as useful today as it was in the horse-and-buggy era. Whether it’s a stop for a soft-serve ice cream cone on a summer afternoon, a place to grab firewood for a Squamish Valley camping trip, or just a quick chat with a neighbor by the front door, the store is the soul of Brackendale. It manages to feel like a time capsule while serving as a modern-day basecamp, offering a warm, small-town atmosphere that reminds everyone why they love living in this valley.
